I have just come across this web site in looking for information on Huncoat Hall. My G Grandmother (She was not my grandfather's birth mother as her husband Charles had an affair and Margaret took him as her own child) was Margaret Smith( 1st husband Jubal Shenton and 2nd Husband- my G Grandfather- Charles Walker), her mother-my GG Grandmother Martha Birchall Married 1st John Smith-my GG Grandfather and 2nd Husband Eckroyd Birtwistle, who's first wife was Betty Pickup. Eckroyd's family once owned Huncoat Hall in Burnley, his 20th or so Great Grandfather was Ralph De Bridtwesell Born 1160 at Huncoat, Lancashire. Eckroyd was also his grandmothers Maiden name( Peggy Eckroyd Born 1770). Thank you for the information on Huncoat Hall and see pictures of what it looked like in 1994.

Wonderful site - really enjoyed the local history section. My great-great-great grandparents Samuel Porrit(t) and Esther Hindle married in Church in 1816 and had a daughter Mary, from whom I'm descended. I'm very interested in finding out more about both families. I have a large family tree, and have great admiration for you as it is a labour of love to collate and present all the information.

Shirley - The Cherrys there are the ones relating to Thomas Cherry b Heptonstall 1821 who could turn out to be the brother of Simon b 1816 Heptonstall, son of Thomas born in Blades, Swaledale - and is at least likely to be some relative. I will be explaining all this to NR next time I see him. Thomas Cherry and Susey Cherry, formerly Dewhirst born Wadsworth circa 1822, were the parents of Alice Cherry, who married William H Kenniford, son of Doctor Kenniford and Mary Kenniford, formerly Barnes, in 1875. ABSOLUTELY SUPER, WONDERFUL SITE! Jolly hard work I should think; I've spent several hours on your site, just being nosy! Inspirational to us all who think that's it, I've hit that brick wall, I'm going no further! However, I did find a link, albeit a long time ago. Nancy Sudall (b.1783), daughter of William Sudall (b.1768). Nancy married a Benjamin Fielding 18/08/1796 at St. James, Church Kirk, Lancashire. They spent their lives in Stanhill and had 9 children. When one of his children were baptised in 1815 Benjamin Fielding was a farmer, but in 1819 he worked as a weaver. Our family in Lancashire have also crossed many other surnames listed by your website i.e. Hargreaves, Howarth, Howard, Bentley and Parkinson, and that's just the direct line. I couldn't count the off-shoots as it started to make me dizzy! Super job, keep up the good work. Many thanks. Karen

Thank you very much for an extremely interesting, comprehensive and easily-navigable website! I am the grand-daughter of George Elwyn Furness (b 1893)great- granddaughter of Percy Elwyn Furness (b 1863), great-grandaughter of Alice Sudall (b. abt 1842 at Oswaldtwistle Lancs), great-great grandaughter of John Sudall (b abt 1813) and great-great-great grandaughter of John Sudall (b abt 1774). My grandfather (George Elwyn Furness)emigrated to Western Australia with his parents and siblings in 1907. He returned to England as a member of the Australian Imperial Forces' 16 th Battalion and was awarded the Military Medal. see http://www.awm.gov.au/database/awm28/index.asp One of the benefits of his service was that he was able to re-connect with his family and spent many happy times with his grandmother Alice Sudall and her 3 spinster daughters Clara, Elizabeth (Nellie) and Alice. I have a single photo of Alice and a much later one of her with her three daughters that I will scan soon and post. I live in Australia but will be visitng England soon for the Ashes cricket series and will do some more family searching, thanks to your help, whilst in Manchester for the Old Trafford Test! BTW my grandfather loved cricket and passed it on to me. He marrried the grandaughter of 2 English convicts (Haynes from Haworth Yorks and Evans from Bodmin Cornwall)and now I say to you... I told you we'd be back!! Warm regards Diane

Your website has given me enormous guidance in researching my line of Rawcliffes from Turnover Hall/ Mysercough Lodge, farmers generation after generation in and around St Michaels on the Wyre. I'm at a point of trying to identify the parents of Richard and Alice Rawcliffe (nee ?) both born 1812, Pilling Lancs, who had 9 children and lived at Turnover Hall (1861 Census. Their middle son Richard b1846 went on to marry Sarah, have 8 children and who had the priviledge to run Mysercough Lodge farm, from the time it was redeveloped into the most cutting edge farm in lancashire and funded by the Duchy of Lancashire. (Ref The Preston Guardian supplement Sat July 11 1891) Includes illustration of the new farm and interviews with my great, great grandfather! The family is enormous and I'm sure it's going to give me years of pleasure researching. Thanks to your will records, I've been able to put some family tale's to bed.

I have just started this family history stuff having picked up the research my father has been doing for some years. I was interested to find my Great Great Great Grandmother (Sarah RAWCLIFFE) and my Great (x4) Grandfather (Richard RAWCLIFFE) on your site - actually it was a bit spooky! Whoever it is who has put the info onto the site has done much more research than my Dad did into that branch, so the info has filled in quite a few gaps. However, I can give details of Sarah's marriage to my Great (x3) Grandfather and their subsequent offspring (which led to me!) if the person concerned would like it. Kind regards
