Moorhead Farm

Moorhead was a farm, now the site of Moorhead secondary school.
Family members who lived there were :-
George Rawcliffe born 27 Sep 1837, and Thomas RAWCLIFFE born 15 Mar
1839 at Moorhead.
Their parents' were Richard and Gilliana Rawcliffe married 1831.

John Huddleston's (born 1826) family, were located in Church Lane, Church

(See map at top of this page)
Omerod Sudall (descendant of the Sudall's at Hillhouse
Farm, Huncoat) lived here according to the 1881 Census return, as did
George Haworth at the same time.
The farm may also be referred to as Ponthalgh, Plowtalgh, Powtehalgh,
and later Park Farm. This homestead is mainly associated with the Rishton
family who occupied the homestead from the 15th to 17th century. The
Rishtons finally left Ponthalgh for Preston, as a result of supporting
the King during the English Civil War. In 1659 Ponthalgh was sold to
the Walmesley's.

Moss Hall

Sometimes seen (due to calligraphy) in the records
as, Moyes or Mofe Hall. Moss Hall was an old farmstead with mullion
windows. The farmstead was in use from at least the 17th century until
1930 when it was demolished and the present day estate was built. The
Whalley family lived in this farmstead for most of the 18th century.
James and Isabel Rawcliffe were resident here, when
Edmund Rawcliffe was born 21 May 1814.
