Death of Mrs John Sudall

Link in an Old Oswaldtwistle Family

The death occurred on Saturday at Blackpool of Mercy, relict of the late Mr. John Sudall, formerly of Union road, Oswaldtwistle. Mrs Sudall was in her 72nd year, lived in Oswaldtwistle up to 1892, where her husband carried on business as a plumber. They then removed to Blackpool, where Mr. Sudall died some nine years ago. Latterly Mrs Sudall resided with one of her five sons, Mr. Richard Sudall. The eldest of the five is Mr. J.R. Sudall, who occupies the shop in Tinker Brow, where his father formerly carried on business.

By the death of Mrs Sudall another link with the past is severed. She was a daughter of the late James Haworth, one of the pioneers of Wesleyanism in Oswaldtwistle and a local preacher for over 50 years. Her eldest brother, the late William Haworth, chemist and druggist, was also a local preacher for 40 years. The late Mr. John Haworth, C.C., was a cousin of the deceased and the name Haworth is inseparable from the early days of Methodism in Oswladtwistle. Whan a girl Mrs Sudall attended the Wesleyan school, then held in the Old buildings at Mill Hill, and she sang in the choir when the music was led by string instruments. She was also a member of the choir at Mount Pleasant Wesleyan Church, a choir which in former days had quite a big reputation locally, and it is interesting to note that to-day one of her grandchildren is a member of the same choir. In her younger days she was a millner and dressmaker in Union-road.

The remains will be interred at Mount pleasant tomorrow (Wednesday) at two o'clock.
