DEATH ON HOLIDAY.
FATAL SEIZURE IN DOUGLAS.
THE LATE COUNCILLOR J. R. SUDALL. <***PHOTOGRAPH***>
Councillor James Robert Sudall, Union-road,
Oswaldtwistle, died on Saturday under particularly distressing circumstances.
He had been in failing health for a few months but seemed to be improving
and on Wednesday went to the Isle of Man to recuperate. He appeared
to be benefiting from the change and at breakfast on Saturday said that
he was feeling very well and was quite jovial. But whilst still at the
table he had a seizure. Staying at the same place were Mr. Moyle and
Mr. Cowell, of Rishton, acquaintances of Mr. Sudall, and they did all
they could on his behalf. The services of a nurse and two medical men
were obtained but Mr. Sudall passed away on Saturday afternoon. The
news of his death occasioned much regret and general sympathy has been
expressed with the bereaved family. Mr. Sudall was extremely well known
in the township where he carried on business as a master plumber continuing
the business established by his father. He was the elder of four sons
of the late Mr. J. Sudall and all were well known in their early manhood
days in Oswaldtwistle. The deceased who was 65 years of age had led
a very active life. For many years he was a member of the choir of Mount
Pleasant Wesleyan Church, and was superintendent of Oswaldtwistle Fire
Brigade. He was a keen supporter of Church Cricket Club and for a short
period was a member of the committee. A Liberal in politics he was elected
a member of Oswaldtwistle Council as a representative of Foxhill Bank
ward in 1923 beating Mr. N. Nuttall, a Labour nominee by 78 votes, and
was re-elected unopposed in 1926. Deceased leaves a widow, one son and
four daughters. The remains have been brought to Oswaldtwistle and will
be interred in the family vault at Mount Pleasant on Thursday.
