FORMER ACCRINGTON ALDERMAN'S DEATH

JESSE SUDALL

The death occurred at his home 64 Queens Road Accrington on Sunday of Jesse Sudall a former alderman of Accrington Town Council.
Mr Sudall who was 76 represented East Ward on the Council for about 15 years when in April 1928 he was elevated to aldermanic bench, along with the late Alderman G H Ellis. He served as an alderman for 18 months and then lost his seat by one vote to the late Mr W A Lambert who thus became the first Labour alderman at Accrington. Mr Sudall was at one time chairman of the Town Hall and Markets Committee in which he took a great interest. Formerly a prominent Liberal Mr Sudall succeeded in every election he fought in the East Ward with substantial majorities.
He is widely known in the district having been in business as a butcher in Plantation Street for many years. He retired 17 years ago.
Mr Sudall was a former president of the Accrington Butchers Association and had been treasurer for many years. He had suffered from heart trouble for some time and leaves a widow.
The funeral will take place at Accrington Cemetery on Thursday.
