John Harrison's Grave John lived at Red Lion Square from 1752 until his death March 1776. His son William was a prominent governor at The Foundling Hospital in nearby Coram Fields. The Foundling Hospital was built 1741 and received support performances and works from fellow goverors Handel, and Hogarth.
The eldest of five children of Henry Harrison, a carpenter and joiner, serving Sir Rowland Winn of Nostell Priory.
Moved to Barrow-on-Humber in 1697.
Made a revolutionary turret clock for the stables at Brocklesby Park, seat of the Pelham family 1730 arrives at Greenwich. Clock H1 built 1735. John set sail on H.M.S. Centurian to Lisbon, returning on H.M.S. Oxford. Clock H2 built 1739. Clock H3 built approx from 1741 and abandoned in 1757 Awarded Copley Medal of the Royal Society in 1749 Clock H4 started in 1757.
Finally awarded £8750 by Act of Parliament in June 1773. John Harrison's Will, makes reference to his grand-children John Harrison, Elizabeth Harrison and Ann Harrison. The Will also mentions his son-in-law John Barton of Red Lyon Street, Clerkenwell, watchmaker and his grand-child John Barton and daughter Elizabeth Barton, wife of aforementioned John Barton. Will was made 3rd Jan 1774, was proved in London with two codicils 1st April 1776

2nd wife Elizabeth Scott born about 1705. Married November 1726. Died 5th March 1777. Elizabeth is interred with her husband John in Hampstead, London.
Son William born 1728 Barrow-on-Humber. Christened 20 Mar 1828, Foulby, Wragby, Yorkshire. Died 1815. William was apprenticed in 1752 and Free of the clockmakers company from 1763; He was made a fellow of the Royal Society and assisted his father in the construction of the sea clocks. Clock H4 - William set sail from Portsmouth on H.M.S. Tartar 28 March 1764 to Barbados. William is interred with his father John, Hampstead, London.

1739 - Left London Returned to Barrow and went on to construct bell frames for All Saints Church at Wakefield, Great Coates in Lincolnshire and Pocklington and Richmond in Yorkshire.
1759 - Made box pews and pulpit for St. Lawrence Church Aylesby, Lincolnshire Began casting bells, with his son Henry, at a foundry in Barrow. This business was then passed on through the family from father to son until 1789. 1766 Buried Barrow-on-Humber Harrison Grave
